BE YOURSELF IN MY VIDEO!

Dear Friends and Fans:

I have written a little song about the importance of "being myself" and how hard we can all find it to do so.

I thought it would be lovely to see other people "being themselves" in whatever way they like on our video of the song. It can be making a cake, dancing, drawing, washing your car, taking your dog for a walk, just smiling, whatever it is when you are doing it you feel completely yourself, in your own environment.

We will cut these clips together into the video and even those that we weren't able to use in the final video could become part of our global "Be Myself" tour which we'll be doing at galleries across the world, starting in London, LA, New York, Berlin, Geneva and Paris. The installation on the screen behind which we are taking with us.

The only two rules are:
1. that it must be an "action" not "words" that you are doing 2. Nothing rude (because it will get banned from the site if it is so we won't be able to use it).

I would love you to "be yourself in my video". We're simply taking clips from the first 100 or so and doing an alternative video, which will be up on YouTube and Myspace.

The original video and download are already up on My Space and YouTube so you can see/hear the song and get a feel for it first. Please feel free to mouth along to the words if you like too.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Please film two shots:

(1) Film a WIDE SHOT of yourself against some special place to you - a landmark, your school, your favourite room, etc, and

(2) Film a CLOSE-UP of yourself

Once you've filmed your video, digitize it and EMAIL THE FILE USING www.YouSendIt.com to bemyselfvideo@gmail.com by May 20th 2007

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

* in part of the video be sure to film yourself in a WIDE SHOT standing/sitting in front of some identifiable part of your city/town

* also, for a few seconds, film yourself in CLOSE-UP (head, shoulders, chest) w/ your sign visible (we want to be able to read your words)

* digitize and compress your video according to the following FILE SPECIFICATIONS:

MAX FILE SIZE: 10MB

FORMATS: Windows Media, MPEG, AVI, DIVX, Quicktime

VIDEO SIZE: Maximum 720x576 (PAL) and Minimum 320x240

VIDEO TIME LIMIT: 15 seconds

RELEASE FORM and GRANT OF RIGHTS

By submitting a video ("Material") to Helen J Hicks' "Be Myself" project (Video and Installation) you agree to be bound by the terms of this Release Form and Grant of Rights. Your submission of Material shall of itself constitute acceptance of the terms of this Release Form and the grant of rights set out below.

I understand that submission of the Material does not automatically mean that it will be featured in the Video but that where it is featured these terms will apply. I understand and agree that the purpose of this Release Form and the grant of rights is to confirm that Helen J Hicks will own all rights to the performance I have submitted for possible inclusion in the Video and that I release Helen J Hicks (and any person to whom Helen J Hicks may grant rights in the Video) from any liability associated with the Material. In consideration for the chance to have my Material featured in the Video, the sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged, I hereby acknowledge and agree to the following;

I hereby irrevocably assign to Helen J Hicks with full title guarantee the entire copyright in and to the Material and all right of action and all other rights of whatever nature owned by me in and to the Material whether such rights are now known or in the future created to hold the same to Helen J Hicks her successors, assigns and licensees absolutely and unconditionally throughout the World for the full period of such rights together with any and all revivals renewals and extensions thereof and thereafter in so far as possible in perpetuity. Helen J Hicks will be the sole and exclusive owner of the Material and all right, title and interest therein. including without limitation all copyrights, trademarks and any and all other ownership and will be entitled to exploit the Materials (as featured in the Video and Installation) in any manner whatsoever in perpetuity. I irrevocably and unconditionally waive and (where waiver is not permitted by law) agree not to assert against Helen J Hicks, successors, assigns and licensees, any and all moral and like rights that I have in the materials.

By submitting an entry, I grant permission to Helen J Hicks and her agents, representatives, promotional partners and licensees, to use without compensation my Material, name and/or biographical information for commercial sale and exhibition, programming, publicity and promotional purposes, to the fullest extent permitted by law. I further hereby grant Helen J Hicks the right to change, add to, take from, translate, reformat or reprocess the Material in any manner Helen J Hicks may in her sole discretion determine for the purposes of featuring the same in the Video and associated materials.

I warrant that the Material is or will be wholly original and not copied in whole or in part from, or based on, any other material, excluding only material that is in the public domain. I further warrant that, to the best of my knowledge, the Material does not and will not violate the right of privacy of nor constitute a libel or slander against any person, firm or corporation, and is not and will not be based in whole or in part on the life of any real person, and that the Material does not and will not infringe upon the copyright, or to the best of my knowledge after exercise of reasonable prudence otherwise violate any right, of any person, firm or corporation.

I acknowledge that I have read or have had read to me and understood the foregoing Release Form and grant of rights. I represent that I have full authority to enter into this Release Form and make the grant of rights and I am executing the Release Form knowingly, voluntarily, wilfully and free from any coercion or duress. I am fully aware of the Release Form and its contents and legal effects, and agree to abide by all of the terms contained herein.
